What Causes Ankle Pain When Getting Up To Walk?
Question: When I get up to walk on occasion, there is pain in my left ankle so bad that I can hardly walk. After a have walked for a few minutes, the pain subsides and it is fine. I can walk with no pain. If I sit down for a time and get up, the pain sometimes returns.

No, it is not necessarily worse in the morning.
I have had this for several years. It has gotten worse this past year.
No other joints are involved but I do have pain and swelling in my right thumb which can be due to the type of work I do (typing and flipping index cards)
No I have not had blood work done.

As I told you we need to investigate what is the cause of this pain, so we have to do following test.
1. Ra factor, CRP, ESR
2. x ray and MRI of the ankle joint
These test will give us idea about whether there is any fluid in ankle joint or any synovitis. Till you get these investigation you can follow these step.
1.Hot water fomentation.
2. Avoid cold exposure to ankle in night, you can apply bandage at night time.
3. Tablet Brufen if pain increases.
