Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Ms XXXXXXX

Do not worry, many children are quite fussy when it comes to eating . I would suggest you the following investigation. If they are normal then there is no cause for concern

1. Complete blood count including ESR
2. Peripheral smear examination
3. Urine Routine and Microscopic examination
4. Serum Creatinine

I would also suggest a well balanced diet to meet the nutritional requirement and increase the appetite. Following are some of recommendation for increasing appetite
1. Syrup A to Z 2.5ml twice a day
2. Syrup Calcimax 2 ml once daily.
3. Syrup Aristozyme: It will improve appetite
4. DHA and Omega 3 fatty acid supplements
5. Introduce Pediasure in the diet

It is important that you start introducing a variety of food in your toddler's diet gradually. These will provide the calories, proteins, vitamins and minerals that are essential for his growth. The amount of food eaten would vary from child to child and would also depend on when you introduce a particular food to your toddler. Most of the times it is "Try and Error" method. Lots of patience would be required from your end to find out what is that diet which tickles your toddlers tastebuds which also contains maximum nutrients. You need to try multiple ones and find which your child loves to eat amongst those. Initially it may be difficult from shifting to solid/semi-solid feed from milk based diet, continued perseverance and trying out what the baby likes is the key.

One recipe which the kid will like is as below

Ingredients needed: Ghee( 2 spoons), Whole wheat flour ( 2 spoons) , Pista( 50 gms), Cardomom ( 6 in number), Almonds( 50 gms), Khajur( Dried dates 50 gms), water/milk

In a pan pour 2 spoons of ghee, heat it, add 2 spoons of wheat flour (Atta), cook it till golden brown on low flame till its slightly golden in color. Add 2 Cups of water or Milk and keep stirring it continuously making a thin water paste( same like sira consistency). To this add powdered mixture of rest of ingredients grinded in mixer ( pista, almond, khajur, cardomom).
Supplement baby breakfast with this recipe, and also can be consumed at night when baby is hungry. In this way his quota for milk will also be fulfilled.

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Take Care

what are the types of dha and omega 3 supplements. I have started cypl for increasing appetite. Is his weight of 11.4kgs okay for his age?(3yrs old). I will monitor him for the next 3 days and even then if there is no change in his appetite I will go ahead with the recommended tests and get back. is there any alternative to milk or pediasure as my son doesn't seem to enjoy it much. Thanks for your inputs.

Brief Answer:
Flaxseed is good natural sources of Omega 3 fatty acid

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms XXXXXXX

I would suggest you natural sources of DHA and omega 3 fatty acids

1. You can either use flaxseed or walnut. Make powder of it and you can mix it with wheat flour used for preparation of food for child

2. Fish oil capsules and child syrup of Omega 3 fatty acid supplements are available commercially

Weight of 11.4 kg is low for 3 year old child. Weight is not the only criteria for well being of child. If the child is joyful ,playful and no other symptoms then there is no cause for concern.

You can use milk in the preparation I suggested or you can make banana milk or strawberry milk shake for child. You can also try soya milk.

I hope the appetite improves. Do keep me updated.

Take care Madam

Regards
Deepak
