What Causes Awful Smell Coming From Testicular Area?

default
Posted on Thu, 5 Feb 2015
Question: Hi,
I've just recently turned 40 and for the last 6 months I have had a funny odour coming from my testicles. I went to see a doctor twice and she prescribed me with an anti-fungal cream twice but the smell was still there so she sent me to a Dermatologist who couldn't find anything wrong. I have a shower every morning and night but within an hour the smell is back and I think it is getting worse. I have never experienced anything like this before and was wondering if you could help?

Brief Answer:
Kindly tell your sugar status and daily routine,

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome and thanks for posting your query to the forum.

I can understand your concern for the bad smell coming from the testicular area.

It is quite common to find such kind of smell due to 3 basic causes :

- due to fungal infection

- Due to diabetes

- Due to non specific reasons of personal hygiene and dietary factors.

As your doctor has already given antifungal treatment and you got no relief out of it so ruling out the same.

I request you to kindly tell me your blood sugar status and elaborate your daily routine.

Hope to hear soon from your side.

Brief Answer:
Bad smell coming from the testicular area: various suggestions and guidance

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome again and thanks for posting your details.

After analyzing the complete condition I can make out that this is basically related to hygiene issue. I completely understand your concern for bad odour coming from the area. This is a common problem post 40 years of age.

As I can get from your history, it rules out the presence of diabetes or raised blood sugar so is most commonly is a hygiene issue.

It appears that you have mild bacterial proliferation due to which the odor is coming.

To tell you simply-Skin at and near testicle area is moist and is prone for proliferation of bacteria at the area super-added with fungal proliferation too. This is due to the medical fact that the groin area is always a closed area. It is open only at the time of bathing only. Rest of the time it has a wear and tear by heat, humidity and friction form clothing.

All these things cumulatively cause damage to the skin which may result in accumulation of mild to moderate dead skin and finally decaying of sweat by the bacteria. Therefore producing typical odour at the affected site.

But more commonly it affects the areas which are more prone for sweating or moist areas (as in your case). More specifically these are related to the hygiene and environmental factors. Due to hot and humid climate or due to tight and synthetic clothing, it leads to higher proliferation of bacteria and therefore a kind of funky or bad odor. As you have sitting job that too in truck, so it is quite common to find such kind of issues in your kind of routine.

For the betterment kindly follow the suggestion below:

- Keep your self away from hot and humid climate.

- Take two times bath.

- Wear cotton clothes and cotton undergarments to be changed two times a day. Do not wear any synthetic or tight garments.

- Do cold compression or warm water compresses according to the weather condition.

- Do not sit continuously for long hours.

-You can apply anti-fungal powders such as "clotrimazole" according to medical advice.

-Don't try to scratch or rub the area as can lead to further aggravation of the problem.

I know your job is quite long sitting hours so you have to improvise a bit as per above suggestions. Keep two extra set of undergarments (cotton one). Whenever you get a break then change the undergarments and preferably wash or just wipe with towel soaked in water.

I am quite confident that by doing above measures you will get good relief from the condition.

I hope the information will help you. If you have further queries I will be happy to help.

"Wish you good health"

Brief Answer:
Maintain good hygiene. "Wish you good health".

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,

Welcome again and thanks for your follow up.

I can understand your concern and to get rid of the problem at the earliest. But as I guided you in earlier mail that it is just a hygiene related issue and nothing wrong medically. So none of the things can be done by the private health care and rather a self care would be more helpful.

I am quite sure that once you maintain good hygiene then will be quite fine at the earliest.

I have read somewhere that a bleach bath might help or even one with a cup of vinegar and salt. Any kind of bath help?

Brief Answer:
I suggest you to do "sitz bath" with salt water.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,

Welcoem back to the forum and thanks a lot for your further follow up.

Regarding bleach bath or vinegar salt bath: These bath can actually damage the soft scrotal skin and therefore not advisable. Our scrotal skin is very soft and thin skin, so these chemical can harm the same.

I suggest you to do "sitz bath" with salt water. It means you can take a half tub of cold or warm water according to the weather condition. If it is hot outside then can use cold or other wise if it is cold outside then can take bit warm water and put a pinch of salt in it. You can sit for around 5 minutes of time in morning and at night time.

This is quite safe and takes off the dead decaying skin at the scrotal and nearby areas. Make it sure that you take only pinch of salt and not higher than that otherwise can cause irritation.

Other of chemicals such as bleach or vinegar or anything else are quire strong chemical and therefore are not recommended.

I hope these information will help you. I will be glad to answer any further of your queries or if not then can close the query and rate the answer.

Wish you good health.
