Question : My 28 year old daughter was sent home from work today due to an unpleasant odor. She is menstruating now & cannot find the source of this odor. She has never had this problem before. Even she can smell the offensive odor. There is no leftover tampon in her vagina. Is this serious? What should she do?

Dear member,
Thanks for writing to healthcare magic. A forgotton tampon or remnants or a condom is usually the cause. It is a sign of pelvic infection.
She will need a thorough pelvic eexamination and antibiotics along with betadine pessary.Self examination by patients to look for any foreign body is not helpful ad usually it's deep in vaginal area and not reachable.
Please visit doctor at earliest to prevent infection from spreading.
