default
Posted on Thu, 2 Apr 2015
Question: I have been on Lisinopril 20mg for only two - three weeks and now I am experiencing mid back pain about the kidneys . This is a constant deep back soreness. My MD suggested I stop but wondered if this is a common side effect and how long will this last after I stop using the drug. MY blood pressure wasn152/98 before I started using the drug. I've been taking 800 mg Ibuprophen to take the edge of the discomfort. What else can. I do to resolve this issue?

Brief Answer:
Not very common side effect for Lisinopril

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,

It is not common for Lisinopril to cause such side effects.
If you were my patient, I would go for full examinations for kidney and spine (vertebra) , such as kidney ultrasound, blood, urine tests to evaluate kidney function and MRI of vertebra.

Hope I could help you

Wishing you good health

I would tell you I just had a full screen blood work up and all levels are within normal range . In fact, my chloresterol has dropped to 171 from 210 after dropping sugar from my diet and a generally healthier diet overall. Not to mention the Lipitor regiment too. That said, I am now starting to associate these aches and pains to my full day of garden work one knees last week and am not one that excercises regularly. So, my out of shape may just be manifesting these aches and pains. Never the less, I will try the Lisinopril again alf dose at first to see if there is any connection. I am also on Flomax. It seems that I srartedvthe medication the same day I was gardening.. I will check back with you once more in a week or so if the aches and pains continue.
Thanks for the help

Brief Answer:
Welcome back

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,

It is good that your blood work up came back normal.
It seems your pain was really related to your spine and caused by excessive exercise. So I think you can continue Lisinopril. And try to have regular and moderate exercise to be in shape.
If you continue to have back pain I would advise you to undergo examinations for spine.

Wishing you good health
