Question : My 8 year old son has a lump in his kidney area about 3 inches in diameter on his left side. Its a visible ball on his back. He's complaining of back pain and he has dark urine. He also says that his stomach has been hurting for the last couple of days. I am concerned it could be more than a just uti?
Brief Answer:
needs urgent attention could be pyelonephritis or abscess
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Your son needs urgent medical attention.
The swelling and the stabbing pain plus dark urine means more than UTI.
It could be a complicated pyelonephritis or abscess or swelling of kidney.
Take him to your nearby health facility to get him evaluated.
I would do urine complete and culture examination along with ultrasound for such patients.
Wishing your son good health
