Question : I have chrons and recently diagnosed with
Low vitamin d and b12. Once I took b12 started getting heart palls and could hear pulse when I slept. It went away then started taking 2000 iu vitamin d felt awful. Bad back pain, headaches, extreme fatigue, heart palls started again. Tried this twice started researching and thought maybe all of it was magnesium deficiency. So bought stress x magnesium powder with concententrace has 72 minerals. Only took a 1/4 of scoop as it said to start out with. In addition I have been taking bcomplex without folic acid every day but worried about amount of niacin.niacin 50mg. Last blood test I had high homocysteine and did take a folic acid 400mcg two days ago. After about an hour after taking magnesium supplement my heart started racing very fast and I was extremely anxious and literally couldn't fall asleep till 5 am this morning. Pulse just can't get comfortable. Took blood pressure nothing horrific but pulse pressure kept changing as I was at rest. High 30's to mid 40's. I also ate chicken yesterday and some turkey which didn't realize tryptophan. Also has niacin in it. Is it that my niacin levels were too much in one day or was it the magnesium. I am currently being tested for adrenal insuffiency could this be contributing? Super frustrating and a bit scary. My last liver enzyme tests were slightly elevated but esr and sed rate were well within normal range.

Dear Madam,

Thank you for posting your query on HCM.

Well looking into your problem I would like to tell you that it will be very difficult to point out one cause for this as to what caused it because these are micronutrients and required by body in very small quantities so any excess can result in all this . But in my opinion magnesium can be a culprit behind all this as its an electrolyte and cause electrolyte disequilibrium that may lead to heart flutters .

Adrenal insufficiency can also give this sinking kind of feeling and the symptoms that you are reporting , for this Late onset congenital adrenal hyperplasia needs to ruled out .

I would advise you not to take any kind of supplements on your own as you already suffer from crohns and have been on biologicals and thus take anything only when it is recommended by your doctor.

Take care.
