What Causes Black Discharge From The Vagina?

default
Posted on Sat, 12 Jul 2014
Question: Had about six black specks when I wiped my vagina this morning. Actually looked like pepper. No bleeding. I am post menopausal, thought it could be bits of black fabric from undies since I walked about ten miles yesterday. Or perhaps using replens inserts often. Didn't look like blood. It's gone. BTW , my vagina is very dry and atrophied. Sex is impossible. I am HPV negative.

Brief Answer:
black fabric or fungal infection.keep watching

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I went through the query and understood your concern.

Yes. The first possibility is due to fabrics from undies after a long walk. Since there are no other symptoms the cause may be due to external agent like undies. This will disappear after cleaning and there won't be recurrence.

The second possibility is fungal infection in the vagina. It may present with itching and black discharge. The secretion needs examination under microscope for confirming the diagnosis.

Since you don't have any other problem, keep the area clean and dry. Clean with antiseptic like povidine iodine and watch for any further symptoms or secretion. If this persists then we can treat them based on the presentation. If no recurrence you can discuss the same with your doctor and get examined once just to rule out any other problem.

I hope this information helps you. Feel free to ask for any further queries. I will be glad to answer them.

Wish you good health.
Regards
