Brief Answer:
Pigmented lesion, hematoma / nail plate abnormality

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.
The common causes of black nail are:
1. Hematoma formation
2. Pigmented lesion in the nail bed
3. Hyper pigmentation of the nail plate

A hematoma or blood clot would have cleared up by now and would not last for 7 long years.

A pigmented lesion could can be a benign lesion or a malignant one.
Naevi are common benign pigmented lesions.
However, the most dreaded lesion is melanoma or a dysplastic naevi.
It is important to rule out melanoma or dysplastic lesion.

Hyper pigmentation of nail plate can occur in many skin diseases.

Thus, I would suggest you to consult a dermatologist for clinical assessment and relevant investigations to know the diagnosis and hence treatment.

If you have more queries, I will be glad to answer.

Brief Answer:
Diagnosis is required before treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome again,

Medicine cannot be prescribed before diagnosing the problem.
So, it is best to consult a doctor to diagnose your condition and then to plan management.
Whether medication is required or not depends on the causation of the black nail.

Thanks and take care
