What Causes Blackouts Lasting For 60 To 90 Seconds?

default
Posted on Fri, 7 Oct 2016
Question: Blackouts without warning. Approx time 60-90 seconds Never know anything until my head hits the floor.
All heart tests have been completed without any results. I am scared and do not know where to turn at this
point. All blood tests have been fine. I am a active, happy person, now I am losing my independent scare to drive. I appreciate any advise.

Brief Answer:
Have you seen a neurologist?

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for your question and I'm hopeful that you can get a quick diagnosis to fix this problem. If your spells are truly up to 90 seconds then, there is little chance that these are cardiac in nature.

If cardiology has done all they can do and have come up empty then, I suggest you see a neurologist and have the following things done:

1. Bloodwork to include thyroid profiles, adrenal profile, electrolytes, urinalysis, and a random sugar with a hemoglobin A1C checking for diabetes

2. EEG (standard 22 minute) followed by a sleep deprived study (awaken 2 hrs. prior to usual get up time only....no need to stay up an entire 24 hrs).

3. MRI of the brain with a SEIZURE PROTOCOL (gadolinium contrast and fine cuts through the temporal lobes)

If I've adequately answered your questions could you do me a huge favor by CLOSING THE QUERY and being sure to include some fine words of feedback along with a 5 STAR rating if you feel my answers/suggestions have helped? Again, many thanks for posing your questions and please let me know how things turn out.
