What Causes Bleeding After Sex?

Question: Hi. My boyfriend and I recently began having sex. We had done it before, but the other night, I noticed blood on the sheets. I wasn't a virgin in the first place so I wasn't too sure what happened. But the next morning when I was in the shower, I noticed that my hymen had ripped and now there is a piece of skin hanging. It's been kind of itchy and irritated down there since this happened and there has also been more discharge than usual. Is this normal? Do a lot of women have this problem where their hymen hangs after being ripped? And will it heal on its own? I am scared and not sure what to do.
