What Causes Bleeding After Taking Microgynon Pills?

default
Posted on Mon, 12 May 2014
Question: Ok so when I had my period just about a month ago I started microgynon 30 but ever since my period was suppose to have finished I have carried on bleeding. I didn't take a 7 day break I just carried on to my 2nd packet of pills. Nearly 5 weeks later I'm still bleeding :/ what can be the cause of this? The bleeding isn't heavy but it is getting annoying because I'm trying to avoid seeing my boyfriend and he has spoken about having sex. Do I need to stay away from having sex?

Brief Answer: AS BELOW Detailed Answer: Hello Thanks for writing to us with your health concern. You need to see your doctor right away. You are having breakthrough bleeding, the dosage of the pill is obviously not enough for you. You need to switchover to an alternate preparation. You can have sex, just make sure it is protected sex. Also, see a gynecologist to rule out other conditions such as endometrial hyperplasia, polyp, fibroid, ovarian cyst etc which can cause such continuous bleeding. You need to have an internal evaluation - per vaginum and per speculum and pelvic ultrasound scan plus hormones - FSH, LH, TSH, Prolactin, OGTT, DHEAS, Free testosterone. All the best Please feel free to discuss further.
