Posted on Mon, 13 Oct 2014
Question: Hi. I took 2 unwanted 72 a week back and I have bleeding which is very less than normal and it is a bit more today. I also had back pain that I usually get during my periods. My period is due a week after next week. The last period started on 4th September. Is this usual vaginal bleeding or just an another symptom of unwanted 72?

Brief Answer:
WITHDRAWAL BLEEDING DUE TO EFFECT OF THE PILL.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

According to your information, it is MOSTLY suggestive of withdrawal bleeding due to effect of the Unwanted 72 pill.

It is quite COMMON and PHYSIOLOGICAL phenomena. Most women get this type of bleeding after taking the pill.

Your upcoming period may be delayed for 1-2 weeks due to hormonal imbalance.

Hope, it helps for your information. Kindly, close the discussion if you don't have any other query.

Wish your good health and practice safe sex in future.

Thank you doctor. Is it normal to bleed excessively than spotting? It started on 25th of this month. Today it's a bit more though. Will there be any difference in the way I bleed and How long will this last?

Brief Answer:
LAST FOR 3-5 DAYS.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Withdrawal bleeding varies from spotting to heavy bleeding. However, it will stop automatically within 3-5 days in most cases without further treatment.

If heavy bleeding continues more than 5 days, I suggest to take TRANEXAMIC ACID group of drug to arrest bleeding. Maintain genital hygiene properly.

Hope, I have answered your query. Kindly, close the discussion.

All the best and good luck.

Thank you for the reply. I have one more question. What is the difference between withdrawal bleeding and menstrual bleeding?

Brief Answer:
Not Differentiable

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for follow up query.

Visually withdrawal bleeding and normal menstruation is NOT differentiable. It looks like normal period.

Withdrawal bleeding occurs due to sudden withdraw of hormonal pill, leads to falling of body progesterone level (takes few days) after initial high dose. It may start with spotting to heavy bleeding suddenly.

Normal period occurs NATURALLY in cyclical pattern (mostly) without any pill induction. It is quite regular with normal bleeding pattern.

Hope, I have cleared your doubt. Kindly, close the discussion.

All the best and good luck.

Regards,
Dr S Patra
