Question : Hello again, Dr. Panagiotis. When I had the bleeding and pain at the end of urinating on Saturday, does this mean the UTI infection was irritating the urethra? Although I had a similar infection 17 years ago, is it possible that this time it was low grade for a long time before this week?.
Should I be concerned that this infection involves the prostate?! My PSA is very low.
And the bleeding itself subsided even before I started Cipro . Thanks.

Brief Answer:
bleeding is expected in UTI
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
the most common symptoms of a lower UTI (cystitis) are frequency, urgency and bleeding, so bleeding is expected and should not worry you, unless very profound. Bleeding is not a measure of severity.
The very low PSA is against prostatic involvement. Cipro treats both, although the prostate would need longer duration of treatment.
Contact me for any clarification you might need.
Kind Regards!
