Brief Answer:
Sebaceous cyst

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM with your medical question.

I appreciate the inclusion of the picture that makes the diagnosis much easier. From the appearance of the picture the ear has either a sebaceous cyst or the beginning of a small abscess. Since the area is not painful I believe it is more likely a sebaceous cyst. A sebaceous cyst is a cyst filled with sebaceous or waxy material. They appear around the ear frequently and do not carry any significant problems unless they become infected.

If the cyst becomes infected then I usually start antibiotics to reduce the infection. This usually resolves the problem and allows the area to heal. The picture maybe showing the cyst early in infection and may eventually become painful. If it does I recommend you seek medical attention.

Brief Answer:
Abscess is a small infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for responding to my answer.

From your response I would say that you probably do have a small abscess. This is where a small amount of bacteria enters your skin and starts growing. I would recommend that you seek medical attention so you can get started on an oral antibiotic. I usually recommend cephalexin for this type of infection. Your doctor may decide on a different antibiotic as long as it kills the bacteria in your ear.
