What Causes Bloating Immediately After Eating Along With Abdominal Distension?

default
Posted on Fri, 19 Dec 2014
Question: I had colitis once 3 summers ago, and I am worried I am getting it again. I bloat immediately after eating, and my stomach is so distended I look pregnant. I hardly eat because no matter what it is or how much, it makes my stomach feel so full. I don't think it's constipation but my bowel movements are never consistent, its either diarrhea or hard to pass. I tried MiraLax to clean out my intestines, but I don't know that it is helping at all because I still feel bloated and in pain.

Coming to your current problem-
Do you have pain abdomen?
Do you see any blood or mucus in stool?
Have you lost weight?
Do you have any triggers(food, stress etc) which will aggravate your symptoms?
May is know if your physician has prescribed Miralax and other medications that you have been taking and for what reason?

It was infectious, I don't have the reports. I went to the emergency room because Urgent Care told me I was dehydrated and that didn't seem right. That's when they told me I had colitis and not to worry about ulcerative colitis unless it came back, which it didn't.

I had severe pain in abdomen last week, but it has subsided. Only hurts when I push on it, and my abdomen is hard to the touch on my right side.

I have not seen blood or mucus in stool.

I have not lost weight.

I know that too much bread or dairy hurts my stomach, which makes me think I have a slight gluten or lactose intolerance but that's self-diagnosed.

I was not prescribed Miralax or Gas-X, I just googled things that could make the bloating go done. So far it hasn't done much to help though. I also have taken a daily probiotic for years, recommended by the doctors when I had colitis.

I am worried it could be Celiac's or something severe. But my stomach always looks normal in the morning so I haven't made a doctor's appointment yet. But as soon as I eat something I am huge and in pain.

Brief Answer:
Gastroenterologist evaluation is must

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear. Thanks of writing me back.

I were to examine, do an ultrasound abdomen, barium enema and endoscopy (if needed) to rule out local gastrointestinal pathology. Intermittent abdominal pain needs evaluation. Sprue needs to be ruled out by doing a few labs (serology to assess elevated antibody levels (IgA etc) when the symptoms are not very specific. Suggest to fix up an appointment with gastroenterologist without further delay.

Avoid milk products (in case of lactose intolerance), oat, wheat , barley and rye (in case of gluten sensitivity) if they aggravate your symptoms.

Stop Miralax and prilosec.

Hope this answers your query. Please do not use OTC medication which google picks up since you might delay your diagnosis. Most OTC are non-specific and do not cure the underlying condition.
