Question: My 19 yo has had problems with lightheadedness, bloating, and nausea off and on for a year. She has changed her diet and her doctor gave her ondansetron to take for the nausea. She takes this medicine 4-5 days a week. Is this safe??

Brief Answer:
How Long Has She Been Taking It ?

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for writing in

The symptoms you have described point to dyspepsia and/or collitis

Ondensetron alone can not take care of these symptoms

If she has indigestion digestive enzymes need to be added

If she has mucus in stool, tenesmus and fullness after meals, a probiotic along with proton pump inhibitor and domperidone will be of help

If these do not respond get back to me with her complete blood panel and stool examination

As far as Ondensetron is concerned long term safety has not been established and US FDA has raised an alarm on its effect on EKG Readings

How long has your daughter been taking this ?

Light headedness is a known side effect of the molecule

Hope this helps
