Question : I have a bloated stomach (sometimes) more at the end of the day and get winded when walking and talking. I have GERD, mitral valve prolapse, and have had numerous tests this last year. Everything has checked out okay, but the winded feeling has gotten worse. I get winded ( sometimes) walking from my car into where I work, about ten/fifteen yards, what is wrong with me? Oh, I also found I have numerous polyps in my stomach......thanks to endoscopy this past July. All of which were benign...... I take Prilosec 1x daily. I was switched to 40 mg of nexium, but am back on Prilosec. I just want to know why I get the bloated stomach/winded feeling at times. It also goes up through ,my left breast area. I use to feel like I was choking, left side, too! I've had a stress test and angiogram in October and November. All checked out okay. I use to take 40 mg. of micardis and 25 mg. of metoprolol.......I now take 12.5 mg. of metoprolol, because of low heart rate now. Go figure!!!! Oh, forgot....I'm fourth year in menopause and feel like I've been in menopause hell the last two years. I had a bout with anxiety when all this started, almost two years ago. I listed my previous meds.....why has my heart rate changed so? I'm over weight, but do not smoke or drink. I keep telling my cardiologist that something just isn't right, but I don't know if it's with my heart or stomach. I also hurt the left side of my shoulder during all this......I went through physical therapy last summer but pains still came back. Also found out that I have degenerative disc disease. Okay, that's all my questions.

Brief Answer: Detailed explanation below Detailed Answer: Hi, I appreciate your concern . If i see such a patient in my clinic ,I would advice her following:- 1. Firstly regarding your feeling of Bloating .In case you are feeling Bloating of stomach despite taking Cap Prilosec , then I think you should try taking a a prokinetic drug alongwith it. It will help to increase your gut motility and help in symptom relief. You might not get them OTC.So you can discuss with your treating physician and try taking them . Alongwith it make dietary modifications like try cutting out cereal fiber, which seem to help some patients. This means avoiding wholemeal bread, oats, muesli, digestive biscuits, cereal bars and all breakfast cereals other than Rice Krispies, but white bread, cakes, cream crackers and most biscuits are fine.Drink plenty of water and maintain good hydration. 2.Regarding your flatulence(excessive wind) ,try making lifestyle and dietary modifications first.Eat food slowly and remember to chew. Without chewing, food is more likely to pass into the gut partially broken down and there’s a higher chance it will ferment and produce flatulence. You should try to avoid eating foods high in unabsorbable carbohydrates. However, it's still important to eat a healthy balanced diet, including at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day. Choose foods that contain carbohydrates that are easy to digest. Getting plenty of exercise can help improve the functioning of your digestive system and bowel. It has also been shown to help with bloating and the passage of gas.If it does not help ,try taking medications like Charcoal Tablets or Tab. Simethicone . 3. To help your menopausal symptoms, try meditation or yoga. Take diet rich in calcium or try taking Soya. In case symptoms persists ,then there are various medications available which can help your symptoms. 4. Continue your Metoprolol. 5.In case you are overweight with low heart rate ,you might get your Thyriod hormone analysis. Hope it helps.Ask in case of any other query. Dr. Kavita Paul
