Brief Answer:
Need some clarification

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be due to Irritable bowel syndrome( IBS) as you have mentioned.
Have you also got a stool microscopic examination and stool for occult test done? If not then I would suggest to get these stool tests done.

I need a few clarifications
1 how long have you had these symptoms?
2 have you lost weight recently( past 6 months)?
3 have you noticed any blood in stools?

In case there is presence of blood in the stool examination then you would need screening for colonic cancer

In case these symptoms are long standing and you have not lost weight and there is no blood in the stools( even on stool microscopy examination) then it is likely to be due to the IBS.
In that case I would advise fibre supplementation like psyllium husk which will help to normalize the stool consistency.
In such cases I usually prescribe a probiotic like VSL3 to my patients.
In case the symptoms persist an antibiotic like rifaximin would be the next step. As these are prescription medications I would advise you to consult your doctor for a prescription.
I would advise you to avoid milk and milk products like cheese, cabbage and beans as these can cause flatulence and bloating
Hope this helps

My symptoms started 8 weeks ago. I did not loose any wait in the past 6 month. Did not get microscopic stool analyses but no visible blood in the stool. Sometimes I observe large amount of mucous especially before bowel movement. I had a colonoscopy 3 years ago and a snall benign polyp was removed. I am scheduled for another one in January.
I took antibiotic as you've suggested prescribed by my doctors but stopped taking it after 3 days and also IB guard. Symptoms subsided for a while and I stopped taking it.

Brief Answer:
antibiotics and probiotics

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the information,

Considering the fact that you have had a colonoscopy 3 years back and there is no weight loss the current symptoms are likely to be due to your IBS.

I would advise a repeat course of antibiotics like rifaximin and a probiotic along with fibre supplement these should help you with your symptoms

Avoid the foods I have mentioned in my previous answer, till your symptoms improve

In case your symptoms do not improve within a week I would suggested to get a stool microscopy test done.

Hope I have been able to answer your question
