What Causes Blood And Protein In Urine?

default
Posted on Wed, 23 Sep 2015
Question: Hi, I went to the doctor today for lab results and was told I may have a UTI due to blood and protein in my urine but I am a male so it's apparently rare. I forgot to tell her though that there have been times where my poop smells like weed although I have never ever smoked it. I only know the smell from walking downtown. Can anyone tell me what's wrong with me please?

Brief Answer:
UTI in male, anatomical causes should be ruled out

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

The urinalysis should be followed by sampling for culture and sensitivity testing. Antibiotics should be started empirically and then tailored according to the culture results. UTI in male should have workup for any anatomical cause. Stones, strictures, obstructive causes should be ruled out. Ultrasound abdomen pelvis should be done to look for other anatomical causes. Renal function tests should be done to rule out any renal pathology. You should consult a urologist in this regard for further management. Stool for ova and parasite should also be done.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
