Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.
Thank you for writing to us.
I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. The appearance of a darkened or blackish colour sputum also indicates the presence of blood in the mucus, which was later confirmed by the appearance of fresh blood in your mucus.
As your symptoms do not typically match a simple respiratory tract infection, I would recommend you seek medical attention or at the least get the following investigations conducted:
+Chest x-ray (PA view)
+Sputum cytology
+Complete blood count
+Auscultation conducted by a doctor to check on breathing sounds
+Mantoux test
In the meantime, please do try your best to follow the following suggestions:
+Gargle with lukewarm water and a pinch of salt in a glass 2-3 times a day
+Use a dispersible pain management tablet that can be dissolved in lukewarm water, gargled and spit out (e.g. DISPRIN-MD)
+Use an antiseptic mouth wash (e.g. BETADINE or TANTUM mouth wash)
+Wear a mask in public places
+Keep track of how your sputum appears to look
+Also notice if your cough lasts for more than 2 weeks
I hope you find my response helpful. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.
Best wishes.
