Question: My 84 yr old father has blood in his stool and many times his stool is black in appearance.

I am so sorry to hear about this blood in stools. This is suggestive of a lower bowel bleed and we will need to know what the exact cause is. Seems the last colonoscopy was okay but when was it? Also, is he constipated as this could lead to diverticulosis that can easily lead to bleeds or abrasion from hard stools causing minor bleeds. In addition. let his blood count be controlled as there is a high chance that he’s anemic from the information you have provided.
