What Causes Blood In Stool And Difficulty In Passing Gas With Inguinal Hernia?

default
Posted on Mon, 9 Jun 2014
Question: i have an inguinal hernia that wouldn't let me fully pass gas for about an hour. Finally passed gas and had a slight bowel movement, but there was blood in stool. i'm also on coumidin for blood clots, is this a major concern? Bulge went down and i'm feeling better but worried about bleeding internally. i also have a history of ulcerative colitis.

Brief Answer:
Go to the ED.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for using Healthcare Magic.
From the details you describe, you have had an episode of subacute intestinal obstruction. I note you have a number of other health conditions. The blood in your stool may be related to the coumadin but it may indicate damage to the bowel.
This episode is a cause for concern. Therefore, I suggest you should go to the ED for a full assessment. If your bowel has become obstructed once, it may occur again. There is a possibility that you may need your hernia repairing to avoid the potential for serious obstruction in the future.
I hope this is of help. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
