default
Posted on Wed, 9 Sep 2015
Question: Hello Madam,

My wife is in her 32nd week of pregnancy now. For the past one week, she found some blood spotting in the stool during excretion. The rectal bleeding is not all the times during excretion , but it is frequent. She don't feel any discomfort or pain or irritation, etc. Apart from that she is healthy and active. For your information, she is little obese.

We need your advice in handling this situation.

thanks

Brief Answer:
Hemorrhoids likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The most likely cause of the symptoms that your wife is experiencing is related to hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids are swellings of veins in the area of the anus which can become sometimes painful and itchy. There can sometimes be a stinging sensation as well with bowel movements. The various causes of hemorrhoids are less intake of fiber, pregnancy, being overweight and constipation.

The best treatment for this usually includes a topical medication and possibly a suppository. I usually recommend a topical medication such as Preparation H or Sheild ointment. This generally provides good results for these patients.

Some measures for her:
1)Have fiber rich diet as oats, XXXXXXX pulses, flaxseeds as they help in bowel movement. She can take "Triphala chur" which is an ayurvedic preparation for bowel movements.
2)Drink lots of water throughout the day.
3)Go for a brisk walk daily for half an hour.
4)Take "Sitz bath"(tub filled with hot water, add potassium permenganate and sit with buttocks down for 5 to 10 minutes 2 to 3 times in a day)
5)Take Bioflavinoids in supplement form. It is also found in citrus fruits.
6)Apply Calendula cream or Aloe vera gel around the inflamed area to relieve
any itching and pain.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
