What Causes Blood In Stool With Normal CT Scan?

default
Posted on Mon, 2 Mar 2015
Question: I have had a sharp pain in my lower left abdomen, almost near my pelvis for a month and a half now. I have also had abdominal cramping and alternating diarrhea and constipation. I occasionally have spots of blood in my stool. I have had a ct scan that came back normal. Is there anything it could be that a ct scan might miss? I had laprascopic removal of my appendix 5 years ago. Could it be adhesions from that?

Brief Answer:
colonoscopy

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Since you have blood in your stools I would suggest to get a colonoscopy done.
A CT scan might miss ulcers in the colon or ileum which can be the cause of the pain and bleeding.
In case the colonoscopy is normal then I would consider the possibility of adhesions.
Then a CT or MR Enteroclysis would help to determine the presence of adhesions
Hope this helps
