What Causes Blood In Stool?

default
Posted on Thu, 29 Sep 2016
Question: Hi, im concerned about small red streaks on my stool(image attached). I had a sigmoidoscopy performed (first 30cm of colon) due to this and traces of mucus on the stool. The test was clean thankfully, but I was diagnosed with inflamation and given a suppository. So far there has been no mucus present but i still ocasionally get these red streaks on the stool, and sometimes small bright red traces on the toilet paper(like irritation wounds). I did have gastroenteritis(was given antibiotics) in May this year, and have usually very weird gastric symptoms like constipation or diarrhea since birth (i've always had an irregular stomach). Maybe my stool is normal and its just that im too concerned about it now that i check it, but i would like to be sure(hope is nothing serious). Thank you

Detailed Answer:
hi.
thank you for posting query at HCM.

i read your history and have seen images attached to your question.

red streaks within the stool maybe :
1. "occasionally" and rarely due to change in bowel habit ( severe constipation, hard stool may have damaged the mucosa)
OR
2. red streak maybe appearing as a digestive product of food you had in a particular day ( food additives - red color , more tomato ingestion, tomato juice/sauce)

Sigmoidoscopy has ruled out any current(bleeding) source or Lesion for bloody streaks. so be sure, your intestinal wall is normal.

increased Mucus content in stool may also be secondary to change in bowel habits.

therefore, putting together, change in eating habits is advised. You should not stress at all for resolution of present symptoms.

if you suffer from constipation every now and then...
advise:

- thrice daily , take two tea spoon (or one big spoon) isphagula husk with 200 to 300 mL water
- increase warm water intake as much as possible
- eat small meals (rich in fiber)
- eat plentiful "fresh oranges" and "pear "
- avoid COLD milk and and AVOID junk food(NO burger , pizza) altogether
- mix few drops of "lemon juice" in warm water. Drink on empty stomach, early in the morning, to aid in bowel movement
- avoid beverages / alcohol/ soft drinks
- do some exercise (push-ups etc) early in the morning
- avoid carbonated drinks
- take 2-3 spoon edible virgin olive oil in the morning

Any further questions are most welcome.
Hope to answer your concern.

Wish you good and sound health.
