Question : My son is 2 years old, he used to get slight blood in the stool and in the anal area, now it has reduced but he passes very solid stool we give him vegetables and fruits but it has not helped, any suggestion please?

Your son's blood in stool is most likely due to anal fissure. For hard stools you can try the following home remedies:

- Include fiber rich diet like green leafy vegetables(spinanch), banana, apple, curds etc.

- Adequate fluids.

- You can use over the counter stool softeners like Citrucel or MiraLax for a week.

- Holding In : Usually a 2-year-old is far more interested in playing with toys than going to the bathroom this can also lead to hard stools.

- Exercise : Make sure your son plays outside for atleast 30 mins/ day.

If the symptoms persist or worsens I would suggest you to meet your pediatrician for a detailed examination and treatment.
