What Causes Blurred Vision After Bending Down?

default
Posted on Thu, 1 Dec 2016
Question: I was bent over at the store, looking at the lower shelves and all of a sudden my vision blurred as if my eyes had crossed. It did NOT correct itself when I stood up and when I covered one eye, I could see fine, then I covered the other eye and could see fine. It took 2-5 minutes for my vision to become normal again. Earlier today, I had weakness in my left arm. This was before the vision incident. What happened to me?

Brief Answer:
Probably temporary increased intracranial pressure.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Sometimes, increased intracranial pressure (increased pressure inside the skull) that succeeds extensive bending over, may cause vision problems such double vision, blurry vision etc.

This may be related to temporary increased pressure on vision controlling nerves too.

Weakness in your left arm may be caused by impaired temporary blood flow etc. but in very rare cases, increased intracranial pressure may cause arms or legs symptoms too.

I don't think there is need to be worried much more than necessary, it probably was just an episode.

In case these symptoms repeat, or new symptoms appear, you should get evaluated by your primary care Doctor.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Greetings.
