Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. Your dad is on Stablon (Tianeptine) 12.5 three times a day and Baclofen 30 mg per day.
Out of these drugs Tianeptine is a new tricyclic antidepressant drug. The drug is relatively safer drug but it is associated with some side effects and anticholinergic side effects are also seen. Side effects like blurred vision, reduced frequency of stools, confusion, drowsiness, vivid nightmares, worsening of cognitive functions etc are seen in some individuals.
The side effects he is having like unclear vision, inability to identify from distance, feeling that he might fall (most probably due to postural hypotension), memory problems, nightmares like symptoms etc are probably occurring due to his drugs only. As he has passed acute phase of de-addiction treatment so no need to worry for any serious event.
In my opinion these symptoms should reduce in severity in about 1-2 weeks or alternatively you can ask from his psychiatrist and can reduce the doses of Tianeptine.
Concomitant use of Baclofen is potentiating these side effects. His symptom like increased salivation is due to Baclofen only. But as the drug is an anticraving drug so no need to ask for reduction of its doses. Wait for some time and this will reduce spontaneously.
Discuss with his doctor for any worsening of side effects.
Thanks, I hope this helps you. Take care.
