What Causes Blurry Vision, Fainting Feeling And Tightness Between Breasts?

Posted on Fri, 10 Jul 2015
Question: I started having blurry vision when reading. Eye dr said my eyes have not changed. Then week later I rolled over in bed and felt like I was falling. I opened my eyes and the moon was jumping. They first thought vertigo, but the dr sent me to the physical therapist who tried to trigger vertigo and could not. He sent me back to my dr who had my corroded arteries ultra sound and they are mild to moderate. I thought maybe I was anemic but blood test showed no. Strangely enough I took b complex and felt somewhat better my vision improves off and on. Still feeling like I am on a boat now three weeks. Then I stood up to go to bed one night and felt like I was fainting. I threw up and had to eliminate and made it to the bathroom with help from my husband. I had a tightness between my breast and ribs in the center. I went to ER and they ran blood test and monitored my heart for several hours before sending me home. I was not able to make decisions during this time and was alittle goofy. My dr has referred me to a neurologist but the appointment is still two weeks out. I am fused in my neck at levels 4/5 and 6/7, that has been done about seven years ago. I have much more pain between my shoulder blades to my neck than I have in years. I feel like my eyes are bouncing at times and constantly have nausea. I feel out of body somewhat. Any help is appreciated I am feeling scared. Thank you

Brief Answer:
Need to exclude posterior circulation ischemia.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms, and based on that, there are three possibilities:

1. BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo)- which is caused by inner ear dysfunction. This is often self limiting in nature and settles down in 4-6 weeks. Betahistine tablets would help reduce the symptoms.

2. Cervical disc disease- since you already have a past history, and also more pain, we need to exclude pinching of nerves in the neck. Physical therapy, pregabalin capsules, etc would help in this condition.

3. Posterior circulation ischemia- The most important condition to exclude is posterior circulation ischemia, where the blood supply to back of brain is reduced. This can be done by doing by an MRI and MR angiogram of brain.

There is no need to worry, as all these three conditions are well treatable.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,

Brief Answer:
No.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

You are not in danger, if you wait for two weeks, if your symptoms are stable or improving.

However, if you notice your symptoms getting worse at any point of time, you may visit the emergency room (ER).

Best wishes,

Dr Sudhir Kumar MD DM (Neurology)
