What Causes Bodyaches With Sore Throat?

default
Posted on Thu, 27 Feb 2014
Question: Started out with bodyaches and bad sore throat. Negative for flu and strep. 5 days later bodyaches and throat are better but still there but have clear nasal runny nose, sneezing, itchy nose and throat, and heavy eyes. All stated with this sickness about 5 days ago. Can other viruses cause these symtoms? I also have heavy eyes after I tried zyrtec? Don't feel tired just hard to keep eyes open and I haven't slept much. I've never had allergies and I'm assuming since it started with sickness it's all related. Can a virus irritate your nasal passages with sneezing and itchiness?

Brief Answer: Viral / Allergic Rhinitis Detailed Answer: Dear Friend. Hi , I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern. It can simply a viral infection or Allergic Rhinitis. In fact you are in recovering phase as is apparent from your symptoms. A viral infection and allergic rhinitis can cause these symptoms. Since you are negative for strept infection and flu, i would advise you following treatment options : 1. An Anti-histaminic drug like Levocetrizine once a day. In fact you may take drug combinations of anti allergic medications available on the counter like LCZ Cold twice daily. 2. Steam Inhalation. 3. An antibiotic like Azithromycin might be required if your discharge is purulent or if you have fever. 4. Avoid cold and dust. Just following this , i expect you complete recovery in next 3-5 days. This is my personal opinion based on details available here. If you still have any query you may please ask me. Stay Healthy. Dr Anshul Varshney , MD

Since the clear runny nose, sneezing, and itchy nose, and irritated started right after the bodyaches and side throat started its most likely related to a virus like you previously said..is it the virus it self irritating the nose membranes and eyes and causing the itching and sneezing? I've had this 5 days but the nose part 3 days. Thanks
