What Causes Borderline Personality Disorder?

default
Posted on Mon, 4 May 2015
Question: I have a friend who punched herself and then blamed it on me. I am horrified. She has a history of doing such things to her ex. It's vengeful in the extreme and I think she just wants attention. I don't know what to make of her. She is running around telling people I 'beat her up'!!!!! She is 48 years old, mad at the world,,,and an alcoholic.
Is it normal to feel guilty for something you did not do?

Brief Answer:
Dont blame yourself for her behaviour

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Her behaviour of self harming and then blaming other could occur due to some personality issue. A lot of females with histrionic personality or some times in borderline personality disorder show self harm episodes and they tend to blame others also. Her behaviour in past also further strengthens the diagnosis. She should be evaluated by a psychiatrist and psychologist properly for making a diagnosis and for treatment.

You haven't done anything wrong so no need to feel guilty. Due to her bad behaviour disappointment may lead to guilty like behaviour but try to control this. It is normal to some extent but you haven't done anything so no need to blame yourself for her behaviour.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Please ask again if you want to clarify some more things.

What can do about her trashing me like this ? What can/should I do about that? Should I just ignore it? It's very embarrassing to say the least
I think I am right to cut her off completely. She is dangerous. What do you think?

Brief Answer:
Her behaviour should be ignored completely

Detailed Answer:
Hello again and thanks for asking a follow up question

Best thing that can be done in such situation is to ignore it completely. Such histrionic behaviour increases if given proper attention but if ignored and dealt with firm behaviour then such behaviours reduce.

As such she cant be considered as dangerous but she can harm herself and may label or project you for her suffering, this could prove harmful to you. She might develop suspiciousness which can prove dangerous.

Thanks, still have more questions to ask please don't hesitate to ask again.
