Question : My husband is 72 - - very over weight - - very short of breath, had two bowel movements, one in bed and one on the couch, has a fever

Just worried - I hope I don't have to w ait long

Shortness of breath can be due to many reasons including heart attach, asthma, COPD (if he smokes), bowels obstruction (even if the stool is present).
If he is breathing rapidly, has high heart rate (more than 100), chest pain, bloated abdomen, lack of urine this might be urgent. In such case you should take him to ER.
