What Causes Bright Red Blood During Bowel Movement?

default
Posted on Mon, 2 Mar 2015
Question: Hi I have recently noticed bright red blood on toilet paper and a jelly or toffee like substance on my stool. I go normally and feel no pain when going or at any other time. I was recently diagnosed with a stomach ulcer though this might be irrelevant.

Brief Answer:
This is not related to stomach ulcer.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this query.

This blood is not related to stomach ulcer. Stomach ulcer produces black blood in stool. Bright red blood comes from the lower part like rectum, colon and anus. This is unlikely to be colitis as you have no pains. Leaning towards hemorrhoids or small wound in the anal and rectal area that may be responsible for this. With examination, the cause would be identified and treated accordingly. Have your stools been soft or hard?

In the mean time, eats enough fruits and vegetables, drink much water and avoid over straining during stools.

I hope this helps. I wish you well.

Seems to come out in big lumps but not soft or hard.sometimes it can be a bit skittery. What's the procedure to repair a small wound and what is the toffee like substance.

Brief Answer:
Healing is often sponatneous!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

In big lumps, hemorrhoids are more likely. I will like to know what the examination reveals.

Keeping stool soft would also be very helpful. The toffee stuff would most likely be blood related as well. Wish I could se a sample of it.

I Wish you well.
