Question : Hi, I ejaculated today and my semen had brown bits of stuff throughout it. I have never had this problem before and would like to know what it is and / or what may have caused it.

Mostly due to infection of either Seminal Vesicle or Prostate .

Hello Thanks for your query,based on the facts and photograph that you have posted it appears that you have ejaculated semen with brown bits .

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) Do you have any other symptom like painful ejaculation ,burning urination ,dysuria etc ?

The brown bits in the semen are mostly due to clumping of sperms with blood secondary to infection of either Seminal Vesicle or Prostate (Prostatitis) .

Please consult qualified Urologist for clinical and digital rectal examination and get following basic tests done to confirm the diagnosis.
1) Urine routine and culture.
2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis
3) Serum PSA.
4) Semen Examination and Semen Culture

In the mean while start taking antibiotics like Doxicycline along with anti inflammatory medication like Diclofenac twice daily .

Ensure to drink more water .

Ensure to avoid sexual activities till it gets cured completely.

Further treatment will depend upon result of these tests and final diagnosis.

No other symptoms at this time. I do have 100mg capsules of doxycycline on hand - at that dosage do you recommend once or twice a day and for how long? Also, I had an abdominal ultrasound and MRCP about 3 or 3-1/2 months ago for an unrelated pain in right abdomen and all was normal except slightly dialated bile duct.

You can take Doxicycline twice daily and later on switch on to antibiotic as per culture report . .

Prostatiti takes long time to get cured hence you will need to take appropriate antibiotic for 4-6 weeks .

Thank you - one last question. I have a hydrocele and epididimal cyst on my left testical that makes it 2-3 times the size of my right one. I have had it for years. It is often tender to the touch but not enough that I have wanted to have surgery. Could that have anything to do with this?
