Posted on Mon, 24 Aug 2015
Question: I just started taking birth control (jolivette) about 15 days ago and have started to have a little bit of brown/red blood discharge and am worried because I've had sex twice in the last 48 hours. What should I do?

Brief answer....there is nothing to worry.
Detailed answer...
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have read your query and understand your concern.
You have two query and I would answer them one by one.
1st....It is perfectly normal to spot between periods when you take birth control pills. As your body adapts to newer and  different levels of hormones, you may get bleeding between periods called as breakthrough bleeding. It is perfectly normal and not a sign of any thing wrong or any disease.
2nd...you have to be cautious and use condom in first week after starting birth control pills. After first week of regular taking birth control pills, you become safe and hence won't get pregnant with an unprotected sex. Since you took your pills regularly for more than a week, before resorting to unprotected sex,you are safe from pregnancy.
In nutshell,There is nothing to worry.
I hope it helps, however you are most welcome to revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks

Should i take plan b just to be safe? I am now fully bleeding like my regular cycle. Also, is jolivette a good birth control?

Hello,
No need to take plan B because you did unprotected sex around 13 days after starting your birth control pills.
Breakthrough bleeding is milder than normal menstrual bleeding and generally lasts a day or two.If it persists for more than 48 hours, you must consult your doctor.
ZOLIVETTE is a good oral birth control pill and you can continue taking it.
Thanks

I started my period on July 17 and started taking the BC on July 20 and had sex on July 30 and Aug 1 without pulling out. I am just so worried that now that I am bleeding the BC isn't working. I did take the BC about 3 hours later than normal yesterday. Thank you for your help, just don't want to get pregnant as I am in college and not ready for that.

I had originally said i started taking the birth control 15 days ago, but that was when my period started (July 17), I started the BC (July 20) and had sex July 30 and August 1 with no pull out method.

Hello,
sex done after 7 days of regular intake of pills, doesn't result in pregnancy.
You did sex on 10th and 11th day, hence no chance of pregnancy.
Thanks
