Question : Burning, sometimes swelling, comes and goes. It is like an inflammation that comes on suddenly sometimes after I use the restroom. I treat it with aloe wipes which has helped, but tonight it started after I used the bathroom but with the addition of a thin brown discharge, then it was a thicker mucous, then bright red. It hurt a lot. i laid down for a couple of hours and the pain subsided as usual. It is no longer bleeding. It does not itch. It is intermittent, unpredictable and goes away. It is happening more frequently- every week now.

                                    Brief Answer:
Colonoscopy has to be done.
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Thank you for the query.
Your symptoms can be caused by hemorrhoids or something more serious like rectal cancer. This has to be ruled out at first. Please note that the risk of colon cancer significantly rises over the age of 50. That is why colonoscopy is the first test to be done at your case. You should consult general surgeon or proctologist to have rectal examination and to get scheduled for this test.
For temporal relief you should increase fiber rich products, mineral water intake. Use OTC suppositories for hemorrhoids. Have sitz baths with Oak Bark twice a day for 7 days.
Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

The discharge is vaginal. And the swelling is all along the labia and clitoris when it occurs. But I think I do have hemorrhoids.
