What Causes Brown Vaginal Discharge After Taking Depo Provera Shot?

Question: hi I am 19years old and I have been on the Depo Provera shot for about 5 months now i am sexually active and today I started getting a thick brown discharge.. its happened twice and im not sure what to do... im freaking out.. help??

Brief Answer: common side effect so dont worry Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for your query. It is common experience such symptoms while using depo provera injection. It contains progesterone which has this common side effect of causing irregularities in menstrual cycle. But if it becomes bothersome then you can switch to oral contraceptives after the duration of the depot shot is over. Take care, wish you best of health.

The discharge is almost like moose though with some purplish coloring too it.. i apologize im just really nervous. I just want to be sure I dont have to go to the hospital.

Brief Answer: nothing to worry Detailed Answer: Not at all dear, it is quite common while on depo injections. It is kind of small spotting but so less that it takes the to come out into the vagina and in the meanwhile it gets altered in color and seen as brownish discharge. Don't be tense and switch to oral contraceptives so that this off and on spotting doesn't bother you. Take care.
