Femilon is a contraceptive pill which contains desogestrel and ethinylestradiol. Desogestrel is a Progesterone preparation while Ethinyl Estadiol is an Oestrogen preparation. Together they protect against pregnancy.

Some times while on these pills, there is some spotting observed, particularly in pills which contain lesser dose of Ethinyl Estradiol as is in Femilon pills. This is called as breakthrough bleeding. When such bleeding occurs, just take one more additional pill and the breakthrough bleeding stops. May be some times additional pill will have to be taken for couple of days more.

This breakthrough bleeding does not affect the protection against pregnancy.

The hormones may increase stomach acidity causing nausea, stomach pain or some times vomiting also. If vomiting occurs within 2 hours of taking the pill, you will have to take another pill since this pill has been thrown out. For nausea and stomach pain, you may take some antacids. You can take Pantoprozol type proton pump inhibitor half an hour before dinner. Then take the pill at bed time. Your symptoms will be much less or vanished in a few days. Once you are used to these pills, the symptoms will not bother you.

Is fever higher that 100 F? If so please report to the doctor for any infection like 'flue. Fever up to 99 may be due to increased metabolism of the hormones. It will go within few days. If it does not, please report to your physician.

And a final tip. Please avoid intercourse when bleeding or spotting. It may invite infection.

Since you have started the pills from the 5th day, protection against pregnancy cannot be guaranteed during this cycle. I would advise you to use some additional protection like condom for this month.

This being your first cycle of pills, you are experiencing more side effects. Please follow my advice in the previous message and you will be fine. Nothing very serious.

Are you using 21 days pack or 28 days pack?

If you are using 21 days pack, you should start the new pack from 2nd day of the cycle. If you are using 28 days pack, do not have any break between the packs. In 28 days pack, first 21 pills are hormonal pills which effect the birth control; the remaining 7 pills are iron pills. They help to maintain the habit of taking the pills continuously without any break. So the chances of error are less. Usually, while on the last 7 pills, the menses start. After the periods have started, you may discard the remaining pills and start new pack on the second day of the menses.
