Brief Answer:
Itching on hands and feet

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to healthcare magic.

I understand from your query that you having itching and burning on your hands and feet in the evenings.

Some of the causes which could cause such symptoms include
1. Thyroid disorders - mainly hypothyroidism. You could check your thyroid status including Thyroid stimulating hormone, T3 and T4 levels to rule out the same.

2. Diabetes mellitus- You need to get your blood sugar levels checked to rule out diabetes.

3. Dry skin- This could occur if you have a tendency of "Atopy" - allergic tendency which could cause nasal allergies, asthma and dryness of skin either at present or in childhood.

4. Contact dermatitis- This is an allergy caused by touching some allergens and could occur if you are working with paints, cement, gardening ,etc. However, it is more likely to cause itching on the hands alone and not both hands and feet.

5. Urticaria- This usually presents with hives, but could sometimes cause itching and burning alone. This responds well to antihistamines like Benadryl at bedtime.

I would advise you to get your blood work done to rule out thyroid disorders and diabetes mellitus.
You could apply a calamine based lotion or a colloidal oatmeal based moisturizer (e.g- Aveeno) 2-3 times per day.
Do not wash your hands and feet for more than 2 times in a day. Excessive cleansing could make them drier and more itchy.
You could take an antihistamine like Benadryl at bedtime for 15 days.

Hope this throws some light on your problem.

If you have any more queries, I will be glad to answer.

Take care.

Dr. Johny Chacko
