What Causes Burning In Stomach With Bloating?

default
Posted on Fri, 12 Sep 2014
Question: I am a 50 yr old woman, complete hysderectomy 22 years ago. For over a year now I have had breathing and stomach problems, last December landed in the ER, I couldn't breath, they said acid reflux. Although I didn't have any burning, gas, etc, certainly I had enough stress (lost my 29 year old son), they put me on Prilosec, simbacord, flunisolide, saline spray and a nebulizer machine, after we leveled my breathing problems out, things kept changing, I kid you not, I am bloated, my belly and face, my girth has gone from a 32 to a 38 and that was in a matter of a few month, my stomach is firm but BIG and rounded, I ran into a woman while traveling in July and she told me to see an allergist. As time goes by, I am feeling burning in my stomach more often, my breathing is fine, I'm tired more than normal but do walk 3 miles almost every day. I've had ultra sound, scope, cat scan and all have been negative, I've read plenty of blogs, tried the charcol tablet, aloe juice, no relief. I do take Prilosec, lisinoprin, estrogen and simvastrin daily. Any suggestions you have would help, I'm a vet and use the VA clinic so if I can make suggestions to speed up this weeding out process that would be great.
Best a Regards,

Brief Answer:
Could be IBS.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam,

Thank you for posting your query .

Well looking into your problem I think there is a possibility that you could be having a condition known as Fibromyalgia. Since all your tests are normal this is the most probable diagnosis that comes to my mind. The bloating feeling, weight gain, tired, burning pain etc. seems to be the feature of this disease only.

For ruling out any pathology in stomach or esophagus an upper GI endoscopy is recommended as that hasnt been done yet. But looking into whole scenario it seems Fibromyalgia to me and all your tummy problem seems to be related to Irritable bowel syndrome which is a common problem in Fibromyalgia. Amitryptylline needs to be taken for this. You can discuss this issue with your treating doctor to see what he feels about it.

Take care.

I don't understand the amatriptaline, although I have experienced great loss, I don't find myself depressed. I do recall taking this medication years ago for my migraine headaches and had no positive results. I'm wondering about gluten alergy, celiacs disease, I most definitely don't do dairy well. I've always been able to tolerate breads, pasta, etc, though don't consume a lot of them but an icecream cone can send my stomach into a lot of pain, so I use almond milk, etc. does fibromyalgia cause your girth to expand in a matter of months and make your stomach bloated to a point it is not only embarrassing but uncomfortable. I did have right rotator cuff surgery a year and half ago, and verve damage repair in my left arm about a year and a few months ago, I do get the nerves fried in my lower back, have had that done twice, the last time 4 months ago, although I don't find a corilation, thought I should tell you about those. Would any type of allergy cause this type of girth growth and bloating?
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Amitryptylline is just not an anti depressant

Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam,

Thanks for reverting back.

Firstly Amitryptylline is just not an anti depressant , it has an action at multiple levels and yes it is used in migraines also . Migraines are also a part of fibromyalgia . People who suffer from fibromyalgia also have frequent headaches and migraines.

Gluten allergy as per your symptoms can occur , but we need some evidence to prove it . We need a biopsy for this . HLA DQ2 is a gene that is specific for detecting coeliac disease . But generally a trial of gluten free food is given if the patient responds then it means there is a possibilty of gluten intolerance .You can try that .

No allergy would not cause the girth to enlarge . And your nerve and rotator cuff injury is quite unrelated .

Take care.
