What Causes Burning Sensation Above Knees?

Question: I have a sunburn like burning feeling that started on or above my right knee which is now running up the outside of my right thigh and round to the top of my inner thigh. This morning I could feel the pain extending into the right area of my waist area. I am 53. Diabetic A1C 6.6. I see a neurologist tomorrow.

You are concerned about a new area of burning on your right leg that is now getting painful. Have you seen any rash or blisters? This could be the beginning of shingles. Frequently shingles with start with the burning followed by pain and then a blistery rash. It is good that you see your neurologist tomorrow because he can start you on antiviral medication specifically for shingles.
