Question : Hi there, noticed this mark on my bum about a week ago (was on holiday in Rome). seems to have got worse and it burns. What do you think this is?
Brief Answer:
herpes zoster
Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us
I am dr.kakkar(dermatologist).
I have gone through your query and i have also reviewed the image.
This seems like herpes zoster to me. Unilateral painful erythema and fluid filled vesicles which have eroded. Herpes zoster is due to reactivation of varicella zoster virus. It presents with pain and fluid filled lesions in a stripe like pattern on one half of the body.
i would suggest an oral antiviral e.g tablet valacyclovir 1gm thrice daily for a week.
In addition i would suggest an oral antiinflammatory/ painkiller e.g ibuprofen tablet thrice daily for a week.
Regards
