Question : Hi, I have been having a burning sensation since yesterday when I have to urinate. Haven't had a bladder infection in years. However, I am a XXXXXXX citizen (79) and know that a lot of things happen in your XXXXXXX years. I also know that cranberry juice helps when you have a bladder infection and I just went to the store and got a bottle which I have started to drink. Do you have any other information which might help me?

Brief Answer:
I suggest to do an urine test.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you writing in healthcaremagic.

According your concerns I think this could be a lower urinary tract infection and I suggest to do an urine test and culture, abdominal ultrasound to define better the diagnosis.

Usually in this situation I prescribe bactrim (if you are not allergic) for 5 days.
As well during this time you should continue to drink cranberry juice(be careful if you're taking blood-thinning drugs like warfarin) and plenty of water that helps to dilute your urine and flush out bacteria.
Please should avoid coffee, alcohol, and soft drinks containing citrus juices or caffeine until your infection has cleared.

I hope my answer helps you.
I wish you a quick recovery.
Regards.
