What Causes Burning Sensation In Genitals With Negative VDRL?

default
Posted on Fri, 26 Sep 2014
Question: My wife has off and on burning sensation in her genital. It is since our marriage 20 years back. We give her Urispas, prolizer etc and some antibiotic. She gets cured. Both of us got checked for VDRL also but it was negative. Sometimes she does have urine infection and this is then treated by some appropriate antibotics. But God knows why this happens in her genital If we have sex during this period, my penis becomes red and it burns. It takes 10-15 days for me to normalise. I do not know what medicines to use or where to go. Gynaecologists also suggest urine culture only and most of the time it is sterile. Pl. advise what could be wrong with her. Can I take Pentid 400 when I get infected to subside my etching & burning in my penis?

Brief Answer:
do not take medicine without examination

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

It seems that your wife has a chronic vaginal infection. The infection may reside in her or in you and get transmited sexually. Most infections in males are asymptomatic and they are the ones that actually transmit. So an evaluation of both will be needed.

Also since your age is 55, I am not sure how old she is and also if she has attained menopause.

Such burning is called vulvodynia and has numerous causes.
common causes are infections especially bacterial vaginosis, trichomonas, chlamydia, fungi and gonococci to name a few. Other causes are chemicals like powders, deoderants, antiperspirants and even soap in sensitive women. A condition called lichen causes white pathces and severe itch. Menopause also causes dryness and itch.

As of now, I suggest that you both get tested for infection. A per vaginal examination by a skilled gynecologist and testing of her vaginal swab as well as your urethral swab for culture and a microscopy of the specimens will help to know if there is any organism that is causing it. Also get both of your urine examined for infection.

Common management of such infections is vaginal tablets [ clingen is the commonly used one inserted every night for 7 days and no sexual contact till then], a course of drugs like ofloxacin ornidazole and fluconazole depending upon the test report. Use of probiotics like vagilact tablets also helps restore vaginal Ph and prevent infections. It is advisable for both to take treatment after prescription at the same time, full course as if only one gets treated the other partner then reinfects the first one and the cycle continues.

It is also advisable to get both of your blood sugar checked to see if she or you have diabetes as it predisposes to infections.
As of now, it is not possible to prescribe drugs on this site without knowing the organism or nature of infection so it is better if you see a skin and venereal disease specialist and then get treated for better result.

Hope this satisfies your query.
