What Causes Burning Sensation In Left Ankle Area?

Question: My husband had an unna boot applied last Tuesday.... Saturday he is having a burning sensation in the left ankle area where his wound is. No hours for the wound care on the weekend. I am A RN and need direction. What should we do? Burning occurs when lying flat in bed, No burning when sitting in a chair with the leg dependent. Pain level is 8.
Brief Answer:
Start antiinflammatory drugs and visit his doctor....
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
It would be difficult to predict the cause of this pain without looking at the wound. My best guess is increase inflammation around the site of wound. But it doesn't explain the relative pain difference in different positions.
You can try over the counter pain killer such as aleve before visiting the ER.
In any case, he needs to visit his surgeon who can evaluate the current status of wound healing.
Let me know if you need clarifications.
Regards
