Question : I am 55. I have a nurses back so I have been having back pain for several years. I have been treating that. In March I started having burning muscles, lightheaded and SOA with walking up the stairs at my home. We sleep in the basement so I walk up and down them frequently. This has been increasing to the point of I walk to the bathroom, kitchen or even stand up from the toilet. I get muscles burning going up into my head, lightheaded, dizziness, fatigue, SOA and also tremors. Which also make me shaky inside. I am very exhausted. I have had stress test it was ok. I had a thyroid test it was 1.27 within normal.Other tests like CBC and CMP are normal. I was started on nuerotin during this time. So I'm not thinking that is it. I am having some lab work for possible autoimmune dis. I am having hot flashes also but think that doesn't go with it.

Brief Answer:
See a Rheumatologist!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these symptoms that you have reported. I have reviewed the information that you have provided entirely. It is very difficult to tell what the cause of these symptoms is without further information as they are not very typical of a common disease condition. However, we should be able to work with you to address your symptoms while investigating more to identify the cause and treat once and for all.

I will recommend that you see a Rheumatologist. I will also like that you should be investigated for polymyositis alongside the other autoimmune disease conditions that may be responsible for similar atypical symptoms. Being unable to walk around and use muscles, large muscles, could be suggestive of this.

In the meantime, try pain medications, light and refreshing exercises, enough rest and sleep alongside some pain medications relief yourself of these disturbing symptoms. Gentle massage sessions may also prove helpful.

I hope this helps. I understand so much work still has to be done to pinpoint the cause of your symptoms and treat them right. I will like you to keep me posted. Also, feel free to ask for more information and clarifications needed. In between, what is SOA as this is not a commonly used medical abbreviation?

Thanks for this follow up information and your kind words. This SOB(shortness of breath) could also be explained by affected respiratory muscles. Keep me updated as you get more information and with your progress.

I wish you well.

Ok some more of my labs came in CRP is 4.47, CK 50 and E sed rate is 14. So the only one that is elevated is CRP. The Rheumatoid test is still pending.

Brief Answer:
Thanks!

Detailed Answer:
I have taken a look at the results.

These results suggests that this is less likely to be cause by an inflammatory process with a normal sedimentary rate. Also, a CK of 50 makes polymyositis very unlikely. These results are able to tell us what it is not and not yet what the exact problem is. At least, it helps narrow down the list of different possibilities.

Let's follow up with the Rheumatoid test and see what the results say.

I wish you well.
