Brief Answer:
To check for nerve compression & dryness

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
I'm Dr. Shuba Hariprasad and will be answering your query today.

Based on your symptoms, I would like to rule out dryness & nerve compression

Would you clarify a few things for me, please?
# what is your height and weight?
# how long have you had high blood pressure?
# do you take any supplements?
# do you smoke or consume alcohol?
# what profession are you in?
# do you have a sedentary lifestyle?
# do you have pain, numbness or discoloration on your hands/palms & feet? Any itching or swelling in the area?
# are your nails discolored or chipped?
# how are your stools and urine?

I recommend :
-a physician consult with a thorough neurological exam.
-x-rays of the cervical & lumbar spine (if indicated)
- blood tests (complete blood count, kidney & liver function tests, vitamin B12 levels)

Based on these, a diagnosis will be made

-massage your feet & hands with oil for 15 mins every night. Wash of with gentle soap.
Do this for two weeks & look for changes.
-reduce weight if overweight by regular exercise
- if sitting for long periods, stretch and exercise your legs while sitting (flex /extend ankles, K eyes & hips. Tighten & loosen muscles,). Take a quick walk round the building. Take the stairs when possible.
-have green leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds, in your diet
- avoid harsh chemicals & soaps. Use moisturizer regularly.
-cover your feet when you go out. Wash them as soon as you get back.
-maintain good posture at all times. This takes a conscious & persistent effort for a couple of weeks to get it right.
Sit straight, head slightly forward, arms and leg joints at 90 degrees. Move about every 20 minutes.
-while walking, shoulders should be pushed back, chest high, deep breathing technique to be used regularly.
All this will prevent nerve compression & dry skin

Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you good health.

Brief Answer:
Can wait and try lifestyle modifications and proper posture

Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir,
Thank you for the follow up and clarifications.

Yes, being overweight & prolonged sitting especially in front of a computer can cause your symptoms.

# does anyone in your family have diabetes?
# when did you last check your blood glucose levels?

Yes, the quality of the chair, your posture can aggravate symptoms.
Please consider my earlier recommendations.
-the monitor should be at eye level. Head should be slightly extended (like when you try to sniff something)
-your shoulder & elbow joint should be relaxed at 90 degrees to each other.
-your wrist (one operating the mouse) should be level with your forearm.
-avoid sitting for more than 20 mins at a stretch

Please make sure to change your seating arrangement to arrive at a proper posture.

I suggest:
- check your blood for HBA1C, fasting & post Prandial blood sugar levels.
-if anything abnormal, see physician
-if not, try my recommendations for 6 weeks and note your symptoms.
-if it still persists or worsens or new symptoms arise, then see your doctor for x-rays (as mentioned earlier).
-a vitamin supplement (neurobion) for nerve health can be taken - one a day. However I suggest you wait to see if lifestyle changes help (common culprits).

You can wait to see if these measures work for upto 2 months. If not better or you develop numbness, pain, see your doctor right away.
Initiate a weight loss exercise routine after talking to your doctor.

Hope this helps.
Please let me know if there is anything else I else I can help you with.
Wish you good health
