Question: I have burning in the vulva area after swimming. I use a heavy gel before going in the water but I still burn. I shower and wash a couple of times after the pool but still burn. I can't find something that works. Do you know of anything?

Brief Answer:
Can be dryness or infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The burning in the vulva that you have can be due to a vaginal infection or post menopausal vagina;l dryness. If it is associated with a smelly vaginal discharge then an infection is more likely. A vaginal swab culture will help in proper diagnosis. Oral antibiotics are needed for treatment.
In case it is due to vaginal dryness then topical estrogen based cream can help. You can get it prescribed from your gynecologist.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
