Brief Answer:
not the only cause, symptom may be temporary

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Burning sensation can be related to many different possible causes, alopecia is one cause but there are other possible causes as well.

Burning can be due to inflammation, infection, trauma, nerve relate conditions. It can be temporary or permanent.
In many cases the cause is not known.

Abnormal nerve function (neuropathy) can cause abnormal sensations such as burning, . Causes include diabetes, trauma, vit b12 deficiency, folate deficiency, liver or kidney disease.

If the symptom continues, and it may not, then you would need to see your doctor for assessment.
He or she would do a general examination and examination of the scalp.

Depending on your history and findings , blood may or may not be needed . Eg if obvious infection or signs of trauma then may not need bloods.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

Brief Answer:
useful for fungal infection

Detailed Answer:
HI

Ketoconazole is an anti fungal so would be useful if this is present it would treat this illness.
It is not harmful but is only effective for fungal infection. You can continue it if you suspect this.

Normally fungal rash of the scalp also requires oral anti fungal medication so if this infection is present, you would also need a prescription from your doctor for oral medication

Please feel free to ask anything else

I wear wigs and I have a bad habit of touching the affected areas will it slow down the healing process?

Answered by Dr. Michelle Gibson James (27 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
depends on cause

Detailed Answer:
HI

Would depend on the cause. If related to a fungal infection, the heat and moisture that may occur from wearing the wigs may be a problem.

In terms of touching the area, again if related to infection then this would not be wise since may cause to spread or delay healing

It would be best, if possible , to see your doctor to determine the exact reason for your symptoms

If anything else unclear, can let me know
